Nepal has massively suffered from the mega-earthquake of April 25th and aftershocks to follow, which took almost 8800 lives, injuring uncountable people. Not only that, it went on smashing immeasurable number of private and government properties, which included government offices, residential homes, heritage sites, religious places, hospitals, schools and many others.
From the very beginning, we have been working on the immediate relief programs for those people in need, voluntarily. We managed some instant food items, tarpaulins, blankets, mosquito nets, hygiene items, medicines and others. We reached more than 900 families in 7 districts: Kathmandu, Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Kavre, Sindhupalchok, Dolakha and Okhaldhunga. We offered whatever we could voluntarily.
Along with other things, schools are hit the worst. It is estimated that with more than 15,000 schools affected, more than 25000 rooms are partially or totally destroyed affecting more than a million students in it. Since, we have long been working for children and their education, we decided to move from immediate relief items, to something long-lasting. So we created this campaign : Rebuild Schools, Rebuild Nepal.
To begin with, we have managed to build 5 rooms for a HIV School at Kirtipur, Kathmandu, Nepal where lives 21 children with HIV.
After that we moved to Dhading to build another school in a Chepang Community.
Shree Jhagare Danda Primary School where most of the students are from poor and marginalized Chepang family, had two buildings and one was completely damaged by the earthquake.
After preliminary visit, our engineer friends came up with the design and proposal and our friend Binamra Silwal managed to get letter of approval from VDC and District Education Office, Dhading.. As soon as we got the approval, the agreement to build the school was done on 15 August 2015 in the presence of tfcians, School Management and the contractor.
Due to blockade in the country the estimated time and budget both exceeded. With the support of the school management, VDC, the community people, our friends in Nepal and outside Nepal 3-room school building was completed in almost 8 months.
On May 1, 2016 we had a small programme at Jhagare Danda Primary School to handover the new building to the school management and the community.
Along with the new building, we donated 12 desk-bench sets, school bags and stationary materials to each students of the school. There are 90 students in the school from class 1 to class 5, where 90% of them are from Chepang Community. The students and parents were very happy to receive School bags and stationary materials.
