Merry Christmas friends

Dear all,

We wish you a very warm and pleasant Merry Christmas 2013. We happened to celebrate Merry Christmas with the children in Kalopul, where we conducted our 12th Mission on 24th August. We saw their residence and were shocked and surprised to learn that they were sleeping/living with very less bedding. Keeping that in mind, we asked within ourselves if we could collect some bedding and blankets for them. Today we managed to handover few bedding and blankets to them, we now hope they will have a good sleep in the winter.

Successful Completion of the charity show #CourtMartial

We are very much thankful to the awesome presence of you spectacular audiences who turned up for a cause to help bringing smiles on the faces. We would like to express our huge thanks to the Actor's studio team for letting us organize the charity show. According to the agreement with Actor's studio, half of the sum collected from the show will be donated to us for upcoming mission. We'll update on where and how we will spend the amount.

We are highly motivated and interested in organizing a charity show of COURT MARTIAL, a very renowned tale about poetic justice which describes the law and order along with the judiciary system in the Army. The play is written by Swadesh Deepak and is directed by Anup Baral. The play is been shown by the group of Actors' Studio in the Theatre village in Tej Bhawan, Lazimpat, Kathmandu.

The ever time famous Nepalese Super-actor Rajesh Hamal has been in the lead role of the Court Martial where he delivers his best performance as of yet. Many other renowned actors including B. S. Rana, Subash Thapa, Diya Maskey, Karma, Dayahang Rai etc. have given their best delivery to make the play, one of the bests as of now. 

We are very much thankful to the director Mr. Anup Baral and Manager Mr. Dev Neupane for motivating us to organize a charity show of which the half of the amount collected from the sale of the tickets will be donated to @tfcNepal for a good cause. We are very much obliged to the decision they have made in favour of is for good causes.

Help for Muna Bhattarai

Dear friends,

BBCNepali Sewa (@bbcNepali) broadcasted a news dated November 27, 2013 regarding domestic violence affected Mrs. Muna Bhattarai, 20 of Syngja. The story was reported by Haridevi Rokaya (@haridevirokaya) of BBC Nepali Service.

Listening to the report, some of the tweeter users (tweepals) were so much influenced by the news that they begin asking with tweepals to collect some money so as to make a fund so that it could be donated to Mrs. Muna Bhattarai. They also believe if the sum thus accumulated could be used for a small scale business that could be better for her life ahead.

We would like to thank Mrs. Aabha in Saathi, who accepted to provide the sum to Muna Bhattarai for her better future. Also, we are thankful to Haridevi Rokaya who reported on such sensitive issue and enlightened us to help her.

#Mission12 at Kalopul

Today we conducted a mission at #Kalopul where some 6 infant to toddlers were being raised by Mr. Tola Bal, 45. He has been looking after and educating the children from various parts of remote Nepal. Solely he is a Pasteur in a nearby church and despite of his low economic conditions, he has high hopes for the future of those children.

We could not notify all our valued tfcians about this mission as the target group was very much in need of the donations and their needs were not much too.

An invitation for #Mission11 at JDUAC

Dear all,

This is to notify you all and an invitation for #Mission11 going to be held at Joint Disabled Unity Awaz Center (JDUAC) at Chapali height, Chapali VDC. The donation handover programme will held 1 PM on wards on  26th Shrawan, 2070 (10th August,2013).

Also to notify all the nature lovers that #Hiking will take place on the same date as agreed upon by some of our friends. Hiking starts at 8:00 AM sharp from Sundarijal, targeted to reach Chapali by 1 PM at the venue of #Mission11. For details about hiking please talk to our friends Indra, Prakash or Subash.

For any inconvenience regarding the direction to the venue of mission, please DM our friends Pramod, Janak, Ishwar or Hari.

Also, We request you to come up with your unused outfits, children story books, stationery, course books for children up to class 9 or whatever you think is useful for them.

#Mission11 at JDUAC, can we make it ?

What else can be expected from a kid who begs for living? Answers could vary. However, the story we reveal here is unexpected.

Mr. Til Bahadur Karki 40, a physically challenged individual has been a source of inspiration to many. Mr. Karki’s mother was forced to leave her hometown just because Mr. Karki was born disabled. He was then brought to Kathmandu by her mother and later on had no option but to beg for his life. He became a beggar and continued begging for more than 20 years around Pashupatinath temple. He had a keen sight and huge determination that he saved all his begging and collected them in a hole dug nearby in Mrigasthali Jungle.

After 20 long years, he along with the help of police and other people gathered and accumulated to a whole sum of NRs 5 lacs, from which he thought of establishing a foster care home for helpless children in Kathmandu. He explained, ‘I could have saved much more, but the currency notes which I collected were rotten during such long periods inside the earth’.

Mr. Karki is now father to 38 children of age 1 to 15 years. He said, children are from various remote districts of Nepal including Kailali, Jumla, Baitadi and more. He has three categories of children there. 5 children belong to the family whose one or both of the parents are jailed, 3 are physically challenged (differently abled) and the rest 30 are orphans who have lost their parents due to 12 years long insurgency in the country and otherwise.

Mr. Karki still begs, but the purpose has now changed. He then used to beg for his life and now begs for the lives and education of those 38 children. He has established a Center for them and named “Joint Disabled UnityAwaz Center (JDUAC). Children live there as a good family and are studying in two nearby schools.

The problem JDUAC is now facing are to run the daily lifestyle of children now. They lack rason to eat, shoes and slippers to wear, stationery to study and moreover fees to pay to the school and house rent too. They lack almost everything, however this is what we have planned for next #Mission11.

They live in a land of 23 Ana, enough space for cattle grazing. To start with, what we’ve planned is to donate them at most 5 kids (baby goats) along with a mother goat. This will assist their lifestyle much. With the funds remaining we can make a small shade for the goats, buy some stationery and shoes for them. We would also like to ask you to spread your hands regarding the donation of your unused outfits/clothes and your children’s books and stationery if you have any. We most probably will be conducting #Mission11 on 26^th Shrawan, 2070 (10^th August, 2013). We together can offer our labor efforts on the same day to beautify their garden.

Safalta HIV Shikshya Sadan (SSS) Revisited

Three months ago, when we celebrated our second birthday  we found 10 HIV infected children being raised by Safalta HIV Shikshya Sadan (SSS), now the number of children living there have grown to 15 and soon some more will be added. Their home has now shifted to a nearby newly constructed building, which is not yet completed (as in picture below). They have rented this new home at NRs 20,000 per month.

Dr. Sameer Mani Dixit when visited SSS during the last mission promised to do whatever he could to uplift childrens' lifestyle and as per his thoughts he promised to pay the yearly salary of teachers teaching those children. There are three full timer teachers at SSS whose monthly collective salaries come up to NRs 10,000 per month, yearly salary summing to NRs 120,000.00

Sameer along with his wife Dr. Lonim Prasai Dixit provided a cheque of NRs 30,000.00 to us as the first installment which we handed over to the teachers today. Children along with the teachers there were so much pleased to know the news that they kept on thanking all of us and especially Mr and Mrs Dixit until we left.

Children at SSS

Children there are so disciplined and well mannered that anyone visiting them for the first time remains amazed. Children have got  far better lives, they have grown healthier now. Dutta Ram Rai, a volunteer teacher explained that some of the newcomers need some medical treatments which he has been providing . One of the children among 15, who is seriously ill has been undergoing medication in Teaching Hospital, he said.

#Mission10 Food for Children campaign for #BaalMandir Naxal

Tweet for Cause Nepal (@tfcNepal), a loose network of Nepali Twitter users that aims to bring smiles on the faces of deprived and underprivileged people, organized its #mission10 to support feeding of the orphans at the Naxal Balmandir.

#Mission10 became the most encouraging one as we were successful in raising Rs. 190,210.00 (in words : One hundred ninety thousand two hundred and ten rupees only) in a couple of days after announcement of the fundraising gathering in Kathmandu. The fundraising gathering was promoted by a news published in Nagarik daily stating that the Balmandir is struggling with financial crunch and that they are even unable to properly feed the toddlers.

On May 13, more than 80 Nepalis attended the fundraising gathering that raised Rs. 64,003. Help Nepal Network, the largest charitable network of Nepalis with slogan "One Dollar a Month Fund for Nepal" and run on a fully voluntary basis, supported our endeavor by announcing that they would match the amount.

More support poured in through bank transfer, friend’s hand and other ways, as the total charity collected reached Rs. 190,210.00 (at the time this blog is written).

On May 14, tfcNepal members went to Naxal Balmandir to handover the first installment of the support that included children’s food and other utensils worth Rs. 46,600. Director of the Balmadir Ramesh Bhumi, general secretary Krishna Shah and other officials/staffs at the Balmandir received the support in presence of the children.

We are working out with Balmandir officials to finalize the stuffs we will provide in next installments.

Some encouraging facts about #mission10:

·         Chij Kumar Shrestha, a board member of Nepal Children Association that runs the Balmandir, was so impressed by our initiative that he sent Rs. 10,000 for the charity.

·          Father of Aayush Budhathoki, professionally a driver, who arrived Balmandir to supply cooking gases we ordered for the Balmandir, was so impressed with deeds that he decided to donate Rs. 1,000 in the name of his son Aayush ( He did not wish to disclose his name).

·         Rabindra Mishra, a noted journalist who is also in Help Nepal Network, attended the handover ceremony in solidarity to our work.

As a social Initiative, we have produced a short film on HIV infected children being raised in Saphalta Shikshya Sadan (SSS), Kirtipur. The main aim of the film is to generate some help to sustain the school and at the same time to make people aware about HIV. HIV is not itself a disease, but just a symptom. HIV can be cured when medicated. Inborn HIV children have exactly similar guts to stand for the nation as a normal child does. They wish to contribute in the way they could. Let us help them succeed their life in every possible way we can. Together we can.

Hiking Mania

#Hiking is a regular monthly touring plan being organized apparently by @tfcNepal. We hike on every last Saturday of Nepalese calendar month. We plan to hike different Hills around Kathmandu. Though #Hiking was being organized with some of ours initiative, but now onwards we take the lead. There are certain rules to be followed for #hiking as listed below.

1. #Hiking is to explore places around us and at the same time to keep our body and mind healthy, so let us take it seriously and plan accordingly.
2.  Some friends among us will prepare the food to eat somewhere for the hiking. The food comprises of a vegetable curry, achar, a non-veg curry, dry noodles, Dalmoth and else.
3. Everyone is requested to bring water for themselves.
4. The hiking cost is NRs 500 per person. The total cost for the expenses will be done from the fund collected from all hikers and the remaining sum will be kept at the sunshine fund for @tfcNepal.
5. Hikers should register their names by last Thursday before the hiking date in a google document to be provided each time.
6. Hiking photos will be posted in a drop box and be left there for a certain period of time so that everyone could download.
7. Some rules here may be subjected to change as according to mutual interest of all hikers.

#tfcNepal celebrated its second anniversary today at the premises of Saphalta HIV Shikshya Sadan (SSS), Bhatkepati, Kirtipur with 7 HIV infected children brought from the very rural villages in Nepal. Despite that the resident students in the organization being a total number of 10, we interacted with only 7 children of varying age group of 3 to 11.  They are very much obliged to Thulo sir (Elder sir) Mr. Raj Kumar Pun and Thulo Miss (Elder Miss) Mrs. Uma Gurung.

Finally, we all are set for our much awaited "One Year School Fee Campaign" #Mission8.

tfcNepal is going for #mission8 in Bhaisepati, Lalitpur this Saturday January 19.

As decided in the meeting of tfcNepal on last saturday, January 12 at Bhrikutimandap we are all set to go for bringing smile on the faces of 8 children residing at "Ashaya Tatha Apanga Balbalika Uthhan Kendra" and studying at Highland English School, Sainbu, Nakhkhu VDC, Lalitpur.
